Q1. What types of images would you like posted on this site?
A1. We would like images of decorated interiors. Submission of supplementary images of details within a decorated interior are encouraged with the overall room composition. For example, if you submit an image of Chelsea Market, please feel free to also include images of the furniture and wall treatments used in the interior.

Q2. What is the appropriate file format for photo submissions?
A2. Photos should be is saved in a low-resolution format. Save the photo with the maximum dimensions of 640 x 480 pixels.

Q3. My pictures did not post to the site. What should I do?
A3. There are several reasons your photo may not post. In general, photos saved in the wrong format may not post to the site. In addition, the Decoration As Composition site administrator reserves the right to reject submissions that do not support the site’s mission. Contact us at

Q4. What information belongs in the Related Websites category?
A4. Include the source of the image you are submitting (preferably the official
site of the interior if it is overseen by an organization). For example, Wikipedia may post images of Versailles, but we prefer that you list the official Versailles website in the Related Websites category.

Q5. How should I tag images?
A5. Images should be tagged with relevant information not included in the categories provided on the image submission page. Please read the tagging guide for additional information. Additional information can also be entered in ‘Image Information’.

Q6. How do I determine an image’s period classification?
A6. If you are uncertain of your image’s period classification (i.e. Neoclassical, Art Deco, etc.) consult the tagging guide. You may also leave that information blank. In cases where you must add an entry, such as Time Period, make your best guess and make a note in the image information section that the date needs to be verified.

Q7. What should I do if my interior image fits under more than one category?
A7. Select all categories that describe your image.

Q8. Where should I enter my name and/or the photographer’s name when I submit my image(s)?
A8. If you would like to be acknowledged for submitting the images, please include the phrase, “submitted by,” followed by your name in the image information section. If you wish to acknowledge the photographer of the image, please write, “photo credit,” and the photographers name in the related website field.

Q9. Can I e-mail you my pictures?
A9. We strongly suggest that you upload your images to the site. If you are having trouble uploading images, please send your images and website source information to the site administrator at decorationas@gmail.com.

Q10. Who may post to the site?
A10. We invite posts from anyone interested in interior design. The goal of the DECORATION AS COMPOSITION website is to organize a resource platform for interior designers. For our purpose, decoration is defined as the selection and composition of all elements that are used to create habitable space. Decorated Interiors deserve more critical study. This site aims towards a more complex appreciation of decoration in composition and will expand contemporary aesthetic norms. This site invites users to be active participants. Please submit images for consideration for this site.

Q11. May I use images from this site?
A11. We hope that this site informs your studies. If you wish to use an image you see on this site, please contact the image source and request permission to use the image.

Q12. I would like to offer feedback or suggestions about the website. Who should I contact?
A12. We welcome your feedback and ideas. Please direct all inquiries and correspondence to decorationas@gmail.com.

Q13. I want to keep track of the images I've added to the DAC site. How can I find these?
You must log into the DAC site with a user account to add interior images to the site. Any images that you've added from this account will appear when you click on the "My Submissions" link from the user menu at the top of each page (visible only when you are logged in).

Q14. I want to keep track of interiors that I like for future reference. How can I mark the ones I like?
You must log into the DAC site with a user account to bookmark your favorite interiors. When you see an interior you like, you can click on the blue "Bookmark This" on its detail page and it will be added to your bookmarks. You can see a gallery of your saved items by clicking on the "My Boomarks" link from the user menu at the top of each page (visible only when you are logged in).
